Walking, cycling and boat trips in your favourite city

The best way to explore a city is on foot. So put on your comfy trainers and bring along some blister plasters, just in case. After all, good preparation is half the battle. It’s easy to stroll along the streets of Malaga, Athens, Seville or any other city. A bicycle is great to explore further afield. Valencia, Barcelona and Copenhagen, for example, are lovely bike destinations. Certain cities are meant to be admired from the water. Of course Venice comes to mind, but Stockholm, Cairo and Budapest are also worth seeing by boat. Prefer public transport? A ride on Lisbon's famous yellow trams is a must!

Every country and even every city has its own culture. In Rome, feast your eyes on spectacular architecture and Roman ruins and dine on authentic pizza or a good plate of pasta. In Paris, climb the Eiffel Tower, visit the Louvre, stroll along the Seine and round off your day on a terrace in the Montmartre district. Or how about Krakow? Sample the traditional Polish pierogi, visit the castle on the Vistula River and learn about the Second World War. Whichever city you choose, there is plenty of culture to discover.

Time to rest on your city break

Exploring a city can be tiring, so make time to chill and relax, for example with a day on the beach. Cities like Barcelona, Malaga and Nice offer beautiful sandy beaches, the perfect combination of city and strand. Or how about a picnic? Visit a local supermarket or market (always a must for foodies), stock up on snacks and drinks and find a spot in a city park. Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris, Park Güell in Barcelona, Villa Borghese in Rome or Turia Park in Valencia are great for a picnic. Relax among the locals and recover from all the sightseeing.
