Kittilä is not a city in the traditional sense, but a place where nature and small villages take centre stage. In the centre you find shops, cafés and local restaurants. Nearby lies Levi, the well-known ski resort with hotels and activities. The village of Sirkka is a great starting point for routes through nature. As soon as you drive out of the village, the landscape opens up and quietens. Lapland slowly unfolds around you. 

In winter, Kittilä is at its finest. Ski or snowboard on the slopes of Levi, suited to both beginners and advanced skiers. Go on a husky tour through quiet forests or take a snowmobile across frozen lakes. Prefer something more relaxed? Walk through snow-covered pine forests and listen to the silence. And if you are lucky, you might spot the northern lights dancing above the trees in the evening. Kittilä offers winter experiences you will find nowhere else. 

The landscape around Kittilä keeps changing. Snow plains give way to pine forests, and open tundra transitions into soft tunturi fells. In Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, you hike long routes with views across Lapland. The Ounasjoki river is frozen and still in winter, clear and gently flowing in summer. Reindeer sometimes appear out of nowhere along the road. The nature here is simple, but never monotonous.
