Faro is the capital of the Algarve, perched on white rocks with many ancient buildings dating back to Roman times. Visit the 2,000-year-old city walls in the old part of town, known as Vila Adentro. Make sure to also visit the cathedral Sé de Faro, which was destroyed and later rebuilt, resulting in a fascinating mix of architectural styles. The Algarve has so much more to offer too. The picturesque village of Tavira is known for its bridges and Roman ruins. The cliffs of Ponta da Piedade in Lagos offer breathtaking views over the Atlantic Ocean. 

A visit to the Algarve would not be complete without great food. Many restaurants serve Portuguese dishes such as bacalhau (dried salt cod) and cataplana (fish stew). In the old town of Faro, you will find restaurants with terraces, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the views.
