Discover the beautiful Faro and the Algarve

Faro is the capital of the Algarve, perched on white rocks with many ancient buildings dating back to Roman times. Visit the 2,000-year-old city walls in the old part of town, known as Vila Adentro. Make sure to also visit the cathedral Sé de Faro, which was destroyed and later rebuilt, resulting in a fascinating mix of architectural styles. The Algarve has so much more to offer too. Take a boat trip along the impressive coastal caves and visit the charming fishing villages of Albufeira and Lagos.

Enjoy the beaches of the Algarve

Want to step straight from your hotel onto the beach? Then choose a hotel in one of the Algarve's coastal resorts. In Albufeira you will find golden sandy beaches, picturesque coves and a vibrant nightlife. The resorts of Lagos and Carvoeiro are a little quieter and are great bases for day trips. The picturesque village of Tavira is known for its bridges and Roman ruins. The cliffs of Ponta da Piedade in Lagos offer breathtaking views over the Atlantic Ocean.

The cuisine of the Algarve

A visit to the Algarve would not be complete without great food. Many restaurants serve Portuguese dishes such as bacalhau (dried salt cod) and cataplana (fish stew). In the old town of Faro, you will find restaurants with terraces, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the views. Here you can tuck into grilled sardines, piri piri chicken and of course the Portuguese sweet pastry pastel de nata. Ask the locals for their favourite restaurant recommendation. Enjoy your meal!
