Spend the day in Funchal

Funchal, the capital of Madeira, lies on the southern coast of the island. The city is also known as ‘the garden by the sea'. Funchal boasts a picturesque centre with beautiful flowers and plants and historic buildings. A 1.5-kilometre boulevard brings you from the port to the yellow fort in the old city. Visit the Igreja do Colégio, a church decorated with azulejos, the typical Portuguese tiles.
