Start your trip in Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia. The city is known as la Città del Sole for good reason: the city of the sun. Like Rome, the city is built on seven hills. Walk up to the Castello district and discover medieval city walls and towers. From the Torre dell'Elefante or Torre di San Pancrazio you look out over the whole city. Then wander through charming streets full of restaurants and shops. End at Piazza Yenne with a coffee and enjoy everything happening around you.

Spectacular nature

Explore Sardinia the best way: with a hire car. Walk through the Su Gorropu gorge, one of the deepest gorges in Europe, with rock walls up to 500 metres high. Visit Su Nuraxi di Barumini: a stone fort from the Bronze Age on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Grotta di Nettuno is also well worth a visit. Deep beneath the cliffs near Alghero you'll find stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Take the boat, or walk down the 654 steps of the Escala del Cabirol.
