Discover historic Cagliari

Fly to the capital city of Cagliari and get acquainted with Sardinia. Cagliari is built on seven hills, just like Rome. Perched on one of these hills, the Castello district used to have impressive fortifications in the Middle Ages. You can still see the towers today.Visit the Torre dell'Elefante (the Elephant Tower) or the Torre di San Pancrazio. The latter is the symbol of Cagliari. Climb the stairs and you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful view of the city. Afterwards, stroll through the charming streets of Cagliari packed with restaurants and great shops. Fancy a really good cappuccino? Piazza Yenne is the place to go.

Sardinia's impressive nature

The best way to explore Sardinia is by renting a car, so you can easily drive from one attraction to the next. For a more active day, drive to the Su Gorropu Gorge, one of Europe's deepest gorges. The landscape and views here are simply amazing. You will feel tiny as you walk along the sheer rock walls that rise up to 500 metres high. Do you love to explore ancient history? Don’t miss the mysterious Su Nuraxi di Barumin, an impressive stone fortress dating back to the Bronze Age. Unique in the world, the 'nuraghe' of Sardinia deserve their spot on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Explore more unique nature in the Grotta di Nettuno (the Cave of Neptune). Tucked away at the bottom of high cliffs, this cave is covered with the most stunning stalactites. You can reach the entrance by boat from Alghero, or by climbing down the 654 steps of the rocky Escala del Gabirol (goat stairs) like a true mountain goat. Whatever way you choose, don't miss this natural wonder of Sardinia.

"Wherever you are in Sardinia, attractions range from unique archaeology to beautiful natural phenomena and stylish beaches."

Enjoy a lavish beach holiday

To recover from all the sightseeing, head to one of the many fantastic beaches on the island. The Costa Smeralda boasts the sandy beaches of Capriccioli and La Spiaggia del Principe, among others. In addition to perfectly white sand, these beaches also offer stylish hotels, clubs, golf courses and yachts. Not very surprising considering the area's history. In the 1960s, the Costa Smeralda was bought by a group of wealthy investors, led by a Persian prince. They transformed the area into a popular holiday playground for the rich and famous. The upside is that today you can enjoy the dazzling nightlife with clubs and discos. Party until the early dawn and make the most of your holiday on Sardinia.
