Zakynthos is known for its impressive coastline with a variety of unique beaches. The most famous is Navagio Beach, also known as Shipwreck Beach, located in a secluded bay surrounded by tall white cliffs. The shipwreck on the white sand makes this beach instantly recognizable and truly unique. Navagio can only be reached by boat, which adds to its exclusive feel. On the southern side of the island lies Gerakas Beach, a favourite among snorkelers thanks to its clear waters and the chance to spot sea turtles. For a livelier atmosphere, Banana Beach is a great option, offering sunbeds, beach bars and a relaxed, laid-back beach setting.

Zakynthos has several charming mountain villages that are easy to reach by car. Along the way, you drive through the island’s green interior, passing olive groves, cypress trees and vineyards that reflect Zakynthos’ rural character. In Machairado, you can enjoy beautiful walks along paths that lead through traditional farmland and small villages. The village of Keri sits higher in the hills and is known for its tavernas with sea views, where you can enjoy local dishes in a peaceful setting. Further west lies Kampi, a small village especially loved for its panoramic location and wide views over the Ionian Sea. 

Zakynthos offers more than just nature and beaches; it also has a rich cultural and historical side. In Zakynthos Town, you can wander through the atmospheric centre with its squares, cafés and narrow shopping streets full of small boutiques. The town was severely damaged by an earthquake in 1953, but was rebuilt afterwards, with several important buildings preserved. You can still find beautiful churches, such as the Church of Agios Dionysios, as well as museums showcasing artworks and historical objects. It is a great place to discover a different side of the island, with a mix of history, culture and everyday local life.
